Vinni’s Children’s Charity Golf Outing raises $30,000-plus for Ronald McDonald House of Detroit

Auburn Hills, MI – The Vinni’s Children’s Charity Golf Outing raised a record amount of more than $30,000 at its 11th annual event to benefit the Ronald McDonald House® of Detroit. The June 7 event drew 130 golfers who played 18 holes at the Fieldstone Golf Club in Auburn Hills followed by a celebration dinner at the clubhouse.

Funds were raised through a golfer fee, sponsorships, a silent auction and raffle. Proceeds will help fund operations for the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit, which serves as a “home away from home” for families that have critically ill children at a nearby hospital.

“The sponsorships were at an all-time high and we had many new teams of golfers,” said Jennifer Litomisky, executive director of the Ronald McDonald House. “This year, we added an online registry for the silent auction items, which really helped out. The event keeps growing and getting better. It’s a fun event that attracts golfers and their families and businesses.”

Among attendees were event founder Vinni Adranga and his son, Cary Adranga, who now runs the event. Thad Szott, of Szott Automotive sponsored the top prizes of a one-week car rental of a Jeep and Charger for the men’s and women’s longest drive. GM also contributed a one-week car rental as a prize. The main sponsor was WellDyne, promoting WellCard Health. Mrs. Michigan Jennifer McMahan, of Royal Oak, was there to support the cause.

Szott has had personal experience with the Ronald McDonald House. His family stayed there while his son, Shane, was hospitalized for nearly one month due to a near fatal kidney condition. In gratitude for his son’s full recovery and the homelike experience at the Ronald McDonald House, Szott now sits on its Board of Directors and is an ongoing contributor to the organization financially and through volunteer work.

The mission of the Ronald McDonald House® of Detroit is to serve families of sick children with a “home away from home.” Only minutes away from Children’s Hospital of Michigan and a short drive to other hospitals, families can nurture and support their kids undergoing specialized medical treatment. A nominal daily fee is charged for a guest room and use of common areas including a kitchen, play and entertainment areas (no family is turned away due to a lack of funds).

The 11th annual Vinni’s Children’s Charity Golf Outing to benefit the Ronald McDonald House® of Detroit will take place June 7 at the Fieldstone Golf Club in Auburn Hills.
