Manufacturing Day Gives Students Up-Close Look at In-Demand Careers

More than 4,500 students from across Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties received an up-close look at manufacturing and skilled trades careers as part of national Manufacturing Day on Friday.  The event featured tours from 105 local companies, who highlighted in-demand skills and well-paying jobs offered by the industry.

The tours were organized through a collaborative effort with the Detroit Regional Chamber, Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development, Michigan Economic Development Corp., Oakland County, Wayne County Executive’s Office, and Workforce Intelligence Network for Southeast Michigan.

As part of the day, students from William D. Ford Career Technical Center toured Shiloh Industries in Canton, where they put their skills to the test to solve real-life manufacturing problems through teamwork and problem-solving. View video highlights from the Shiloh visit below:
