Walsh achieves 83% CMA exam pass rate, almost twice national average

TROY, Mich., Jan. 26, 2021 — The Institute of Certified Management Accountants (CMA®), the certification division of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA®) has released the 2020 CMA exam pass rates and Walsh achieved a pass rate of 83%, compared to a national average of 45%.

The CMA exam is a two-part exam covering 12 areas including financial planning, analysis, control, risk management and professional ethics. The exam is completed over 12-18 months on average and the IMA recommends 150-170 hours of study per part.

“Walsh has been educating accounting students for nearly 100 years. A number of our faculty are CMAs and CPAs and bring current, real world experience to their classes so students gain the knowledge and skills they need to prepare for this rigorous exam,” said John Black, CMA, CPA, CIA, associate professor and chair of Walsh’s bachelor’s and master’s of accounting programs.

Walsh was founded on its accounting programs in 1922 by Mervyn B. Walsh, who was Thomas Edison’s accountant. Walsh is one of only six schools in Michigan that is endorsed by the Institute of Management Accountants.
