Detroit Drives Degrees Community College Collaborative

The Detroit Drives Degrees Community College Collaborative (D3C3) is a student success initiative designed to update, create, and/or redesign systems to maximize credit attainment, credential completion, and employment outcomes in the Detroit region. D3C3 will leverage community college and employer partners to create a more cohesive, collaborative education network. This initiative developed out of the Detroit Regional Talent Compact’s 10-year strategic plan focused on achieving the Detroit Drives Degrees’ and State of Michigan’s 60 by 30 goal to increase postsecondary educational attainment to 60% and reduce the racial equity achievement gap by half by 2030. What exactly is Detroit Drives Degrees?

Detroit Drives Degrees is a collective impact initiative to improve the talent pipeline in the Detroit region with three areas of focus:

  • Advancing ACCESS to postsecondary opportunities
  • Boosting student SUCCESS
  • Retaining local TALENT and attracting new talent

The rapidly evolving economy of the Detroit region requires strengthening the talent pipeline. The Detroit Regional Chamber Foundation’s Detroit Drives Degrees initiative seeks to increase the proportion of individuals with college degrees and high-skill credentials in the region. With only 43 percent of adults having attained this level of education, Detroit Drives Degrees’ primary goal is to increase the postsecondary attainment rate to 60% percent by 2030.

Educational opportunity not only catalyzes economic development, but can also change lives by improving social and economic mobility. Higher education attainment remains the most assured way to earn a better standard of living, which can have broad and positive impacts on the community.
