Lt. Gov. Announces $110M in Funding Commitments to Build Michigan’s Infrastructure Workforce
The State of Michigan announced up to $110 million in funding commitments from partnering departments to support the implementation and execution of workforce strategies under the Build Michigan’s Infrastructure Workforce (BMIW) program. This effort is aligned with the priorities outlined in Executive Directive 2024-1, “Building Up Michigan’s Workforce and Infrastructure,” which sets a bold goal of training 5,000 infrastructure workers by Jan. 1, 2030. Michigan is considered a national leader in coordinating this funding.

The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s (LEO) Community and Worker Economic Transition Office announced a public-private partnership designed to create and retain good-paying jobs, support Michigan manufacturers, and strengthen the state’s position as a global leader in the energy supply chain. This historic $3.5 billion commitment is focused on strengthening local supply chains for critical energy infrastructure, such as transformers, and next-generation technologies, including solar components and long-duration energy storage systems.
