The global COVID-19 crisis is impacting life and economies in just about every corner of the world. The U.S.-Canada region, and the dynamic border between these partner nations, is certainly no exception. Our regions – people and businesses – are heavily integrated. Cross-border trade through the Detroit-Windsor border is vital for the economies of both U.S. and Canada with $500 million of goods crossing daily, and tied to thousands of family-sustaining jobs.

While we collectively deal with this public health crisis, we must not forget that the efficient functioning of the U.S.-Canada border is critical not only to the economic health of North America and the global economy, it is also essential to ensure that critically needed life-sustaining goods can flow to the communities and families dealing with COVID-19 in Canada and the United States.  Collectively, we continue to urge officials on both sides of the border to keep critically needed goods flowing efficiently between our two nations.

Our member companies support public health efforts to flatten the curve and are working hard to implement guidelines issued by local authorities.  The Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Detroit Regional Chamber will continue efforts to educate our members on the latest regarding this global crisis and how best to adapt and respond.

Our organizations are united in urging Canadian and American officials to keep our shared border open and efficient for the critical flow of products during this public health emergency and economic challenge.
