International Women’s Day 2024

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

In recognition of this important celebration, the Detroit Regional Chamber and Wellness Works partnered with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan to host a new International Women’s Day event that aligned with the 2024 theme of #InspireInclusion. Attendees spent half a day celebrating personal wellness and hearing from women about their career journeys.

This year’s revamped event format also featured unique wellness experiences:

• Wellness Works hosted an Affirmation Station featuring buttons with positive statements of love, kindness, and acceptance. Attendees selected buttons with a message that best resonated with them to wear throughout the event. 
• Presenting sponsor Community Financial Credit Union hosted a seven-point “fincheck” for attendees to uncover their overall financial health and learn to take charge of their financial situation. 
• Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) facilitated a grip strength test that serves as an indicator of a participant’s healthy bodily function, along with sharing information on other wellness-related topics. 
• Rocket Companies sponsored live music from Florella Strings, a violin and cello duo, to play during the event.
• Henry Ford Health shared their program, C.A.R.E, offering resources and support for caregivers.
• Maven, a women’s health-focused program from BCBSM, educated attendees on the range of resources their program offers through an engaging game of Jenga and provided take-home materials. 
• Michigan Humane brought adoptable cats and dogs for attendees to play with, providing information on how pets can improve their well-being. 
• Sponsored by Enbridge, attendees participated in a “make-and-take” flower bouquet station with Mia’s Flower Truck. 
• Attendees heard a conversation among women business leaders moderated by WDIV’s Christy McDonald. 
• Attendees engaged with a 360° video booth by Showtime Production Group, striking fun and empowering poses to capture and commemorate the event.
