Abdul El-Sayed

Former Executive Director, Health Department, City of Detroit

Abdul El-Sayed is the former executive director of the Detroit Health Department. In this role, he was responsible for the health and safety of more than 670,000 Detroiters and worked to ensure government accountability and transparency, promote health, and reduce cross-generational poverty.

El-Sayed previously served as an assistant professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University. There he authored several publications on public health policy, social epidemiology, and health disparities.

El-Sayed is a Rhodes Scholar, earning a doctorate degree from Oxford University and a medical degree from Columbia University.
