Angela Hospice’s Pat Squires Named Unsung Hero, NonProfit PRO 2022

“It’s incredibly humbling to not only be nominated but to win this award as well,” said Squires, who has worked at Angela Hospice since 2011. “I’m part of such an amazing team who I work with every day that it feels like this award should go to the entire department, not just me.”

While Squires is part of the Community Outreach and Philanthropy team who raise funds for Angela Hospice’s non-profit programs, it’s her work specifically as Donor Relations and Operations – a role created specifically for Squires – that earned her the 2022 NonProfit Professional of the Year Award in their Unsung Hero category.

Squires works one-on-one with donors who call wanting to honor a loved one they’ve lost with a commemorative memorial, which range from brass and cooper plaques to trees planted on the grounds of Angela Hospice. She’s with donors from that initial call all the way through their memorial’s placement.

“Pat connects with donors, patients, and patients’ families on a level far beyond anyone I have ever seen in my 25 plus years in healthcare fund development,” said Jennifer Dale, Angela Hospice Director of Community Outreach & Philanthropy. “From the first time you interact with her you feel welcomed. She makes a difficult time a bit easier by her care and compassion she gives each and every interaction.”

During the 2021-2022 fiscal year Squires raised over $50,000 through purchased memorials, and is well on her way to surpassing that for the next fiscal year. With the relationships she forms, constituents tend to continue to donate to Angela Hospice long after their memorial has been purchased.

NonProfit PRO has held the Nonprofit Professionals of the Year Awards since 2015, an annual celebration to honor some of the non-profit sector’s best and brightest.
