Alan Haller

Vice President and Director, Athletics, Michigan State University

Alan Haller is the Vice President and Director of Athletics for Michigan State University (MSU). A seasoned professional administrator with over 25 years of experience in athletics, law enforcement, and higher education, Haller joined MSU Athletics in 2010 after a 13-year career with the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety. He is a former MSU football player, a member of the track and field team, and a former NFL cornerback.

In Haller’s first year as Athletic Director, MSU achieved significant successes, including a 41st ranking in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, the department’s highest finish since 2014-15.

As a member of the department’s senior executive staff, Haller has held various leadership positions, including Chief of Staff, Senior Associate Athletic Director, Assistant Vice President, and Deputy Athletic Director. He has extensive experience working directly with teams as a sports administrator, leading the senior staff and sports administrator group responsible for administering all varsity sports.

Haller also works closely with campus leadership, providing guidance to the department on various issues and serving as a liaison to multiple organizations.

Haller earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State and a master’s degree in Human Resources from Central Michigan.
