April Ryan is the White House Correspondent for Black Press USA.
Ryan represents an increasingly rare middle ground committed to upholding the integrity of fact-based journalism.
Previously, Ryan served as the White House correspondent and Washington bureau chief for American Urban Radio Networks for 23 years. With more than 25 years as a seasoned White House correspondent, Ryan has the unique vantage point as the only Black female reporter covering urban issues from the White House — a position she has held spanning five presidential administrations.
She is a recipient of the “Journalist of the Year” award by the National Association of Black Journalists, the “Freedom of the Press” award by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, and the National Council of Negro Women’s Mary McCleod Bethune Trailblazer award. Ryan previously served on the board of the prestigious White House Correspondents Association — one of only three African Americans in the association’s 100-year history to do so — and is an esteemed member of the National Press Club.
Ryan graduated from Morgan State University and gives back to her community by serving as a mentor to aspiring journalists.
