John Cherry served as Michigan’s Lieutenant Governor from 2003 to 2011 alongside Gov. Jennifer Granholm. Before that, he spent more than 20 years in the Michigan Legislature, serving in both the House and Senate and as Senate Democratic Leader.
As Lieutenant Governor, Cherry chaired Michigan’s Higher Education Commission, commonly known as the Cherry Commission. He later served on the Saginaw Valley State University Board of Control and currently chairs the Flint Institute of Science and History.
