John Gallagher is a veteran journalist who covered Detroit’s urban and economic scene for more than 30 years as a reporter and columnist with the Detroit Free Press. An award-winning author, his most recent book is Rust Belt Reporter: A Memoir. He was a 2017 inductee into the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame. Gallagher retired from the Free Press at the end of 2019 but continues to do freelance work including book projects and public speaking.
