Marnita S. Harris is the Vice President of Economic Equity and Inclusion for the Detroit Regional Chamber, leading internal and external efforts in economic equity and inclusion, including the Chamber’s internal committees and programs and the Board of Directors committee. She manages external partnerships, including Detroit-based and tri-county community relations.
Since joining the Chamber in 1993, Harris has contributed to various areas within the organization, including community and government relations, the Chamber’s economic prosperity strategy program, as well as fundraising, workforce, and education efforts. Additionally, she has provided oversight for administrative staff and program logistics for Leadership Detroit and the Mackinac Policy Conference.
Harris has won several leadership and diversity awards, including the 2023 Michigan Chronicle Woman of Excellence, the 2023 Crain’s Detroit Business Notable Leader in DEI, and the Diversity Champion award from the Birmingham Bloomfield Diversity Taskforce. She is a Detroit Equity Action Lab (DEAL) Cohort 7, and a graduate of both the New Detroit Multicultural Leadership program and Leadership Detroit Class XXXVI.
Harris serves on the United Way of Southeast Michigan Women United Board, chairs the Women United Engagement Committee, and serves on the Life Remodeled Board.
Harris is certified in project management and advanced leadership.
