Speaker of the House, State of Michigan

Speaker Matt Hall is serving his fourth term representing the 42nd House District, which includes portions of Kalamazoo and Allegan counties.

His colleagues elected him Speaker of the House for the 103rd Legislature. Hall and House Republicans are focused on making life more affordable for Michiganders, providing value for taxpayer dollars, and restoring trust in government.

Since taking office in 2019, Hall chaired the House Oversight Committee and the Joint Select Committee on the COVID-19 pandemic and presided over the House Tax Policy Committee and the development of the new Strategic Outreach and Attraction Reserve (SOAR) fund.

Hall was recognized as Michigan Information and Research Service’s 2020 House Member of the Year, the Michigan Manufacturers Association’s 2022 Legislator of the Year, and the National Federation of Independent Business’s 2022 Guardian of Small Business.

Before his time in office, Matt was a constitutional law attorney and served as the West Michigan liaison for the Michigan Department of Attorney General. He also worked in the private sector for a combat vehicle propulsion manufacturer.

Hall graduated with honors from Western Michigan University’s Haworth College of Business before earning his Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University’s Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
