Melanie A. Markowicz

Executive Director, Greektown Neighborhood Partnership

Melanie A. Markowicz is the Executive Director of the Greektown Neighborhood Partnership, ushering in the next phase of development in Greektown Detroit by launching public space, vertical development, programming, arts, and culture initiatives. She has over fifteen years of project management and community engagement experience, specializing in economic development, urban planning, historic preservation, connectivity, and public policy.

She is the former Department Executive for the Wayne County Economic Development Corporation, who provided strategic direction and oversight for countywide urban planning and development programs on the local and regional scale. Before that, she served as the City Planner for Hamtramck, past President of Preservation Detroit, consultant to the Michigan Historic Preservation Network, and project manager for the Savannah College of Art and Design in Hong Kong.

Markowicz is a Crain’s Detroit Business 2021 40 Under 40 honoree. She earned a Master of Fine Arts in Historic Preservation from the Savannah College of Art and Design, a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Humanities from Michigan State University, and meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Historian and Architectural Historian.
