Shelly Rood is a third-generation Detroit business owner who creates and provides access to dynamic mental wellness content through Mission: Ambition, LLC. Rood created the “Others Over Self” philosophy, which is the belief that all people should be putting the needs of others over their own. The Others Over Self Society brings together game-changers dedicated to keeping their spark alive to better serve others.
Leading the nation’s defense as an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Army Reserves, Rood served her country for 16 years while attaining the rank of Captain. Among other military assignments, she served as a Briefing Officer, Company Commander, Division Operations Officer, and S2 across different Army units. Her military awards include the Shield of Sparta and the St. Joan D’Arc.
Rood has been featured in the Detroit Free Press, Crain’s Detroit Business, WDIV-TV, CBS 62, WWJ-TV, Michigan Matters, MI News 26, and more. Additionally, she serves as the Chaplain for the Selfridge Air National Guard Base Community Council and is a member of the Macomb Chamber of Commerce Aerospace and Defense Committee, Women in Defense, and Officer’s Christian Fellowship.
Rood is a Distinguished Military Graduate from Western Michigan University, where she studied journalism.
