Shri Thanedar represents Michigan’s 13th Congressional District, which includes much of Wayne County, including Detroit, Grosse Pointe, and Downriver.
Before being elected to Congress in 2022, Congressman Thanedar served in the Michigan House of Representatives. At the State Capitol, he helped pass the largest increase in per-pupil funding for Michigan public schools in state history.
Thanedar is an author and entrepreneur. Born in India, he worked odd jobs to support his family throughout high school and came to the U.S. in 1979 to pursue a doctorate at the University of Akron.
In 1991, Thanedar bought Chemir/Polytech Laboratories. By 2005, the company’s total revenues were $16 million, and 160 people were employed. In 2011, Thanedar sold Chemir and launched his own chemical testing laboratory, Avomeen Analytical Services. In 2016, he sold a majority stake in the business to the private equity firm High Street Capital.
Thanedar was named the EY “Entrepreneur of the Year” for the Central Midwest Region in 1999, 2007 and 2016.
