Stefen Welch

Vice President, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Detroit Pistons

Stefen Welch is the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the NBA’s Detroit Pistons, focusing on the team’s strategy of attracting and acquiring diverse talent, providing employee professional development opportunities, and identifying impactful and strategic business initiatives in Detroit.

During his time with the Pistons, the organization has been recognized for their DEI initiatives by Crain’s Detroit Business and Corp! Magazine. Previously, Welch led DEI for national retailer Saks OFF 5TH and Rocket Mortgage.

In 2023, Welch was appointed to the Oakland University Board of Trustees and was recognized with the Crain’s Detroit Business Notable Leaders in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Welch has served on multiple boards and committees, including Black Family Development, Inc., Community Health and Social Services, and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.

Welch earned a Bachelor of Arts from Oakland University, a Master of Community Development from the University of Detroit Mercy, and a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion certificate from Cornell University.
