Susan Corbin

Director, Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity

Susan Corbin is Director of the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), aiming to close equity gaps, protect workers, educate Michiganders and grow the middle class, create better jobs, support small businesses, and build strong communities.

Corbin’s work includes growing the tuition-free Michigan Reconnect program to over 114,000 accepted and over 24,000 enrolled, issuing Michigan Poverty Task policy recommendations to combat poverty and improve health outcomes, growing the Michigan TriShare Childcare Program, hiring Michigan’s very first Chief Connectivity Officer, and providing $250,000 funding to small businesses for enhanced worker protections and over $21.5 million in funding to address vacant, abandoned, and deteriorated properties across Michigan.

Corbin previously served as LEO’s Chief Deputy Director and as a Senior Advisor to Whitmer. Her career in state government included stints in the Michigan Department of Education and the former commerce department. Corbin served as the Appointments Director and Chief of Staff of the State Labor Department under Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s administration.
