Timothy Bartik

Timothy Bartik is a Senior Economist at the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research, a non-partisan research organization. Bartik’s research focuses on state and local economic development and how to boost it through policies that include early childhood education.

Bartik’s 2011 book, Investing in Kids, argues that early childhood programs can boost local economies and has been called “a thoughtful book on the value of a local approach to financing and creating early interventions to foster child development.” Bartik’s 2014 book, From Preschool to Prosperity, summarizes the research evidence on preschool’s economic benefits.

Bartik received his Bachelor of Arts from Yale and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
