Ty Steele is a six-time Regional Emmy Award-winning journalist and evening news anchor at WDIV Local 4 in Detroit. He is known for his calm, credible presence, and his ability to guide viewers through breaking news, in-depth reporting, and investigative journalism.
Before coming to Michigan, Steele spent more than a decade in Northern California covering some of the state’s deadliest wildfires. He also reported extensively on politics at the state capitol, interviewing the governor and other top lawmakers. During the global COVID-19 pandemic, he embedded with the California National Guard as they traveled across the state delivering life-saving support to communities in need.
Since arriving in Metro Detroit in 2024, Steele has covered major stories impacting local communities and reported internationally from the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy.
He has worked in several major television markets across the country, bringing a broad perspective and deep experience covering stories that matter most to local communities.
Steele graduated from the University of Washington and is driven by a passion for storytelling, service, and building a legacy that extends far beyond the newsroom.
