Chamber Applauds US Senate’s Permitting Reforms as a Positive Step for Economic Competitiveness
October 2, 2026
“It takes far too long to execute major developments across the U.S., and certainly, in Michigan. In today’s world where the term ‘China Speed’ has become the standard for competitiveness in the mid-21st Century, America must move forward faster. The U.S. Senate’s step forward to streamline federal permitting processes, as well as work in the U.S. House of Representatives, is a very positive and much-needed step to make America more competitive.”
Sandy K. Baruah, President and Chief Executive Officer, Detroit Regional Chamber
The legislation represents an opportunity to modernize and streamline the federal permitting process, which has long delayed critical infrastructure projects, stifled economic growth, and undermined American competitiveness. It would make the permitting process more predictable and efficient, reducing unnecessary costs and delays that ultimately drive-up prices for consumers and businesses, according to the U.S. Chamber.
