Marathon Petroleum’s Detroit refinery have been working with partners to address the needs of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Below we highlight the innovative and strategic approaches they have taken throughout this time.
Q: How has Marathon Petroleum’s Detroit Refinery adapted to the coronavirus outbreak?
A: Donating personal protective equipment to metro Detroit health care providers, including nearly 40,000 masks to local and regional Michigan hospitals, including Beaumont Health System, Wayne Campus; Henry Ford Hospital; Beaumont Children’s Hospital; and the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
Q: How are you supporting the community in the long-term recovery process following the aftermath of COVID-19?
A: Detroit refinery employees personally donated more than $42,000. With approved company matches, more than $83,000 was distributed to 84 community nonprofit organizations.
Q: Is there a unique pivot that your company has taken to tackle other challenges presented during this time?
A: The refinery team made 100 gallons of hand sanitizer, which was used both at the refinery, as well as personal use for employees and their families. We also Donated toiletries and hygiene items for distribution at the Kemeny Center, including diapers and baby wipes, laundry detergent, feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap and shampoo, hand sanitizer and disinfectant spray.
Q: What is one thing you would like businesses and your community to know about?
A: Our bi-monthly Citizens Advisory Panel was moved to an on-line meeting schedule, ensuring these important meetings that keep our community informed and up-to-speed on refinery operations continued to take place.
