Dan Kildee

U.S. Representative (D-MI 5)

Dan Kildee is a U.S. representative from Flint serving Michigan’s 5th congressional district. He currently serves as co-chair of the Congressional Urban Caucus and the vice ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee. Kildee has also started a new congressional initiative, “The Future of America’s Cities and Towns,” which brings public policy experts together to focus on the unique challenges and opportunities facing many older, industrial communities.

Kildee has worked tirelessly to bring much-needed relief to Flint families. He led the fight in Congress — bringing Democrats and Republicans together — to pass a $170 million federal aid package for Flint to help remove lead pipes and expand health care for families. Congressman Kildee also worked to build stronger communities and safer neighborhoods, securing federal funds to help to remove thousands of vacant and abandoned buildings in Detroit, Flint and other cities across Michigan.

Prior to being elected to Congress, Kildee co-founded and served as president of the Center for Community Progress, a national nonprofit organization, where he served as one of the nation’s leading voices on urban land reform and revitalization. He also founded Michigan’s first land bank – the Genesee County Land Bank – which is responsible for over $100 million in redevelopment in the city of Flint.
