In June, as part of Deloitte’s annual day of service in the U.S., over 500 Deloitte colleagues participated in volunteer experiences across Detroit. One of these experiences was a Career Readiness Workshop hosted by the Detroit Regional Chamber.
For the fifth year, Deloitte provided a comprehensive workshop for students from regional colleges and universities, some of whom were Detroit Promise Students.. The event covers critical professional skills that can help set students up for success as they transition from school into work: resume writing, effective interview techniques, and teamwork and collaboration. All content is delivered by Deloitte professionals, providing valuable networking in addition to skills development.
Events like this are highly impactful for students. One participant shared, “I truly appreciated the opportunity to learn from your team, gain insight into Deloitte’s culture, and hear real, practical advice about navigating early career pathways. The session was incredibly informative and motivating, and it gave me a clearer sense of the skills and mindset needed to grow in a professional environment.”
Building social capital can be a game changer for students entering the workforce who may not have access to established professional networks. Experiences that create meaningful connections and real-world exposure can help the students. Deloitte’s continued engagement with students across the Detroit Region demonstrates how employers can play an active role in developing talent, showing that investing in relationships can be a key to building a stronger workforce for tomorrow.
