Building Detroit’s Future Workforce: Deloitte’s Impact Day With the Detroit Regional Chamber Empowers Local Students

July 24, 2025

Each year, Deloitte professionals come together for Impact Day, a day of service to help create positive impact in the communities where they live and work. On this day, Deloitte professionals, nonprofit organizations, and local communities at over 1,200 projects across more than 100 U.S. cities come together and engage in social impact efforts, including with the Detroit Regional Chamber.

For the fourth year, professionals from Deloitte’s Detroit office came together for a day of volunteering focused on providing valuable skill-building to college students in the Detroit Region through a career readiness workshop. Over the day, students from colleges and universities across the Detroit Region, with a special focus on Detroit Promise scholars, received individualized feedback and coaching on their resumes, practiced interviewing, and learned how to work more effectively using Business Chemistry®, Deloitte’s science-based approach to strengthening teams and enhancing business relationships. Students also heard from Deloitte professionals about their education and career journey.

Students find this workshop valuable, but they’re not the only ones – the Deloitte team gets a lot out of the event as well.

“Our Deloitte professionals enjoy giving back to the community; particularly in helping to develop Detroit’s future workforce.  We were impressed by the energy and engagement demonstrated by this group of students,” said David Parent, Managing Partner, Deloitte LLP, of the Deloitte’s Detroit Office.

The Chamber often hears from regional businesses that their number one challenge is finding and retaining talent. One way employers can address this challenge is by being more involved in developing talent, exposing students to different industries and occupations, and helping young people build a professional network and personal connections to organizations and companies. The annual Career Readiness Workshop is a great example of this strategy in practice.

The Chamber’s TalentEd team works with employers on an ongoing basis to provide these types of exposure opportunities to students. Businesses looking to get involved can contact Christi Taylor, Senior Director of Employer Engagement, at ctaylor@detroitchamber.com.
