On June 5, the Detroit Regional Chamber and Detroit Drives Degrees hosted a kickoff event to welcome the second cohort of fellows in the Detroit Regional Postsecondary Student Advisory Fellowship (PSAF). This year-long, paid fellowship elevates students’ voices in Detroit Drives Degrees decision-making, offering postsecondary students an opportunity to engage in education, workforce access, and policy discussions shaping the Detroit Region.
During the event, fellows learned about several of the Chamber’s initiatives, including Detroit Reconnect, MichAuto, and the Detroit Drives Degrees Community College Collaborative (D3C3). They also had the opportunity to take professional headshots.
Additionally, the fellows participated in a fireside chat with Glenn Stevens Jr., Executive Director of MichAuto, where they gained insights into the mobility industry and the Region’s talent pipeline. Shawn Pewitt, Director of Career Services at Wayne State University, led a professional development session, offering valuable guidance on networking, creating LinkedIn profiles, and leveraging the platform to access professional opportunities and expand their social network.
This year’s fellows represent Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, Wayne County Community College District, and Wayne State University.
This kickoff event equipped fellows with the knowledge and resources needed to maximize the opportunities provided through the fellowship, including professional networking events, roundtable discussions, campus and employer tours, and more.
