Head Coach, Detroit Pistons

Dwane Casey has been head coach of the Detroit Pistons since 2018 after seven years at the helm with the Toronto Raptors. Casey came to Detroit after being named 2018 Coach of the Year by the National Basketball Coaches Association (NBCA) and being honored as the 2018 NBA Coach of the Year as voted upon by national media covering the NBA.

Casey’s first NBA head coaching job came with the Minnesota Timberwolves where he served from 2005-07. Casey began his NBA coaching career in 1994 as an assistant with the Seattle Supersonics. Prior to joining the Sonics, Casey spent five years as a head coach in Japan.

Casey began his coaching career at Kentucky in 1979 – where he also played collegiately – as a graduate assistant under Joe B. Hall.

A native of Morganfield, Kentucky, Casey earned a degree in business administration from Kentucky in 1979. He and his wife, Brenda, have a daughter, Justine, and son, Zachary.
