Greektown Launches Granite Paver Sponsorship to Honor Community Legacy as Part of Monroe Streetscape Project
September 11, 2025
The Greektown Neighborhood Partnership (GNP) is offering a once-in-a-century opportunity to leave your mark on one of Detroit’s most beloved cultural districts. As part of the transformative Monroe Streetscape Project, GNP is launching the Greektown Legacy Paver Campaign which invites individuals, families, and businesses to sponsor custom-engraved granite pavers that will be permanently installed along the newly redesigned Monroe Street.
Each 10” x 20” granite paver includes up to six lines of personalized text and will be prominently installed along the new Monroe Street. Inscriptions can include names, dates, quotes, or messages celebrating personal, family, or business connections to the neighborhood. Availability is limited, and pavers will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
“This is more than a streetscape project, it’s a chance to be part of Greektown’s legacy for generations to come,” said Athina Papas, GNP board chair and president. “We wanted to give everyone in the community a chance to be part of this project. These pavers recognize the people and stories that have shaped Greektown and ensure they’re part of its future.”
Why Sponsor a Legacy Paver?
- Honor a loved one, anniversary, or family tradition
- Celebrate your business or cultural connection to the district
- Support the continued growth and improvement of Greektown
“My family has been part of this neighborhood for decades. My father had a barbershop here, and today we run businesses along Monroe Street,” said Tasso Teftsis, GNP board vice president. “These pavers are a way to celebrate what this neighborhood means to all of us and to help shape what it becomes next.”
