VisionIT President Christine Rice Demonstrates ‘Diversity Matters’ with Keynote at Michigan Minority Procurement Conference

To open the 32nd Annual Michigan Minority Procurement Conference and Opportunity Fair – the largest event of its kind – VisionIT President Christine Rice supported the theme “Diversity Matters” with her keynote speech at Detroit’s Cobo Center on May 1, 2013.

Rice focused on the role diversity has played in VisionIT’s tremendous growth and success, while examining how to bridge the skills gap to prepare our workforce for the future in an increasingly global marketplace.

At the conference, VisionIT was presented with the Google Tech Innovation Award by Chris Genteel, Head of Diversity Markets for Google. The award recognizes Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC) members who have best used technology tools to their advantage.

Other speakers selected for keynote roles were Donald Coleman, chairman and CEO of GlobalHue, and Joset Wright, president of the National Minority Development Association.

Organized by the MMSDC, the conference is Michigan’s top networking event for Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs), aimed at connecting certified MBEs with MMSDC’s corporate members and other potential customers. The conference also offers MBEs business development training in such areas as financial management, sales strategy, marketing and global growth.

The MMSDC, operating for more than 30 years, is one of 36 regional councils affiliated with the National Minority Supplier Development Council driving economic growth within minority communities. MMSDC is nationally recognized for its work with major corporations to promote minority business development and growth and advances its mission by facilitating more than $20 billion annually in business contracts between corporations and certified MBEs.
