2025 SNAP Pause: How Chamber Members Are Rallying and How You Can Help

November 5, 2025

Due to the 2025 federal government shutdown, the U.S. government is only providing partial Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for November 2025, with recipients receiving roughly half of their household’s current allotment. These benefits include assistance with purchasing “staple foods” of fruits and vegetables; meat, poultry, and fish; dairy products; and breads and cereals.

Here is how several Detroit Regional Chamber member organizations have been actively working to address the shortfall and offer ways you can help those in need.

Capuchin Soup Kitchen

The Shopper’s Choice Food Pantry at the Capuchin Services Center is welcoming those facing food insecurity. Like shopping at a neighborhood market, Shopper’s Choice allows guests to select their own fresh produce, pantry staples, and personal care items by appointment.  Shopper’s Choice Food Pantry is accepting monetary and shelf-stable food donations, such as canned vegetables, pasta, rice, beans, and cereal. Capuchin also has several corporate sponsorship opportunities available to support its Holiday Food Box Drive. Learn more.

Focus: HOPE

Focus: HOPE’s Food for Seniors program provides over 43,000 seniors across the Detroit Region with monthly food packages to help meet basic needs. They also provide opportunities to access health screenings, income support, tax preparation services, and utility assistance. Learn more.

Forgotten Harvest

Forgotten Harvest is purchasing food to meet increased needs resulting from the federal funding pause. Its operational structure and partnerships enable it to secure discounted, nutritious food; however, additional funds are needed to expand the amount of food it can provide for those in need.
