“Given her leadership of the Detroit City Council, Mary Sheffield is well-positioned to move the City into its next chapter. The ability of the mayor’s office and city council to work together over the past decade played a pivotal role in Detroit’s resurgence. The Chamber PAC supports Sheffield as she looks to continue the city’s momentum, which is critical to both the Detroit Region and the state.”

Detroiters made clear their top choices for the mayoral race in the primary. Ahead of the general election, it is important to the Chamber PAC, and in alignment with input from various Chamber board members, that the business community supports the candidate best suited to lead the city’s continued progress.

For the Detroit City Council, the Chamber PAC selected the following candidates based on their legislative track records, policy priorities, and interviews with the Chamber PAC:

    • At Large: Coleman A. Young II
    • District 1: James Tate
    • District 2: Roy McCalister Jr.
    • District 3: Scott Benson
    • District 6: Tyrone Carter

“These candidates have demonstrated through their dedication to public service the willingness to solve problems Detroiters are facing,” said Brian J. Shoaf, the Chamber’s Vice President of Public Policy and Business Advocacy. “Each endorsed candidate brings skillsets to the city council to continue the effective work of the previous administration.”
