Deputy Executive, Wayne County Michigan

Assad I. Turfe serves as Deputy Wayne County Executive, where he plays a key role in shaping and executing the County Executive’s strategic priorities and overseeing the delivery of services to Michigan’s most populous county.  

With more than two decades of experience in public service, Turfe has served in key leadership roles, including Chief Assistant and Chief of Staff to County Executive Warren C. Evans, before being appointed Deputy County Executive in 2022. He began his career as an entry-level police officer and rose through the ranks of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, eventually becoming one of its youngest lieutenants. 

Turfe serves on several influential boards, including Automation Alley, Garden City Hospital, SEMCOG, Joe Louis Greenway Partnership, United Way for Southeastern Michigan, The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW), The Detroit Zoo, SMART, Wayne County Transit Authority as Chairman, and HealthChoice of Michigan as Vice Chair. He was recognized in Crain’s “50 Names to Know in Government” in 2023. 

Turfe earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy from Concordia University and has completed advanced leadership training through the Harvard Business School’s Young American Leaders Program and Eastern Michigan University’s Executive Leadership Program.
