Chamber Joins National Coalition to Urge U.S. Senate to Pass Bipartisan Permitting Reform

February 26, 2026

The Detroit Regional Chamber has joined a national coalition of over 100 organizations urging the U.S. Senate to pass bipartisan, comprehensive permitting reform. Following the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of reform bills in late 2025, including the Chamber-supported SPEED Act, the focus is now on the Senate to fix a broken system that stalls vital infrastructure.

These delays drive up costs through inflation and rising material and labor expenses while postponing the economic benefits new infrastructure brings to the Detroit Region. Modernizing the permitting system is essential to provide the project certainty needed to unlock economic growth and keep the state competitive in a global economy.
