Detroit Regional Chamber PAC Announces Endorsements for 2024 Special Election for 13th and 25th Michigan House Districts

January 17, 2024

DETROIT (Jan. 17, 2024) – Today, the Detroit Regional Chamber Political Action Committee (PAC) endorsed Mai Xiong and Andrea Rutkowski for their respective special election campaigns for the Michigan House of Representatives.

Xiong is running in the special election for a partial term in the 13th Michigan House district, which was vacated in November of 2023 by state Rep. Lori Stone, who was elected Mayor of Warren. The 13th district includes Warren and a portion of Detroit.

“As someone who has already served this constituency as a Macomb County Commissioner, Mai Xiong understands the complexity of local and state regulations,” said Brad Williams, the Chamber’s Vice President of Government Relations. “Mai has a strong understanding of the issues facing the business community as a former small business owner who endured the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic shutdowns. Additionally, she has witnessed the barriers many local, minority-owned businesses face with access to capital and worker shortages.”

Rutkowski is running in the special election for a partial term in the 25th Michigan House district, which was vacated in November 2023 by state Rep. Kevin Coleman, who was elected Mayor of Westland. The 25th district represents Westland and a portion of Wayne.

“With a background in local government – serving as president pro tem of the Westland City Council – as well as her experiences as a teacher, parent, and former small business owner, Andrea Rutkowski is well-informed and equipped to represent residents’ and businesses’ needs in Lansing,” Williams said. “Her understanding of brownfield redevelopment, LARA regulations, and economic development make her the ideal candidate to represent the interests of the 25th district’s economy.”
