DSF Scholar Spotlight: Ashley Francis, Oakland Community College
April 8, 2015
Ashley Francis, a 2014 Western International High School alumna, is studying to be a diagnostic medical sonographer at Oakland Community College (OCC). Ultrasound technicians operate special imaging equipment to create images or conduct tests to help physicians assess and diagnose medical conditions.
Her goal is to obtain an associate degree from OCC and then transfer to Grand Valley State University to complete a bachelor’s degree in sonography.
Reflecting on her college experience, Francis said she’s learned to overcome the pressure to “be the best” and has found college to be “a great experience.”
In her first semester, she enrolled in numerous courses, including English, molecular biology and psychology, and said she is looking forward to continuing her studies at OCC.
