Jeffrey Schroder Named Go To Cannabis Lawyer

July 1, 2024
When you think about cannabis law in Michigan, the state’s top legal news publication wants attorney Jeffrey Schroder of Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and most accomplished law firms, to come to mind.

That’s why Schroder was recently named by Michigan Lawyers Weekly to its 2024 list of Go To Lawyers for Cannabis Law in Michigan. The publication’s Go To Lawyers program recognizes top lawyers around the state in given practice areas. Honorees will be profiled in a special section of the newspaper’s July 30 print and digital editions.

In many ways, I’ve been a part of the industry’s evolution, which of course, comes with a lot of legal and regulatory challenges,” said Schroder, who helped co-found Plunkett Cooney’s Cannabis Industry Group. “We represent cannabis clients across the state who are working hard every day to ensure their own profitability and the industry’s long-term viability.”

A former Michigan Assistant Attorney General and Assistant City Attorney in Warren, Michigan, Schroder provides a unique blend of expertise to clients seeking to secure and renew cannabis business licenses, to purchase land and facilities for operations and to remain compliant with the state’s complex regulatory requirements.

Schroder is also called upon for counsel and advice by municipalities throughout the state that are considering whether to opt-in on allowing recreational cannabis businesses to operate within their jurisdictions. He has additional expertise assisting with the preparation of ballot proposals by groups seeking to prompt local officials to allow recreational cannabis businesses to operate within their communities, and he works alongside public officials to create cannabis business licensing processes, procedures and regulatory frameworks in compliance with state requirements.

Since 1913, Plunkett Cooney has been a leading provider of business law and litigation services
to clients in the private and public sectors. The firm employs approximately 130 attorneys in seven Michigan cities, Chicago, Illinois, Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana.

Plunkett Cooney’s Cannabis Industry Group includes a multi-disciplinary group of attorneys who provide a range of services, including administrative law, appellate law, banking law, business litigation, corporate formation, contracts, environmental law, labor and employment law, local government relations, licensing, real estate transactions, regulatory compliance and tax law.

Plunkett Cooney has achieved the highest rating (AV) awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, a leading peer review service, and the firm has received Mansfield Rule Certification for midsize law firms, which recognizes leaders in diversity, equity and inclusion within the legal industry.
