Lake Michigan Credit Union Announces 2020-21 Hutt Scholarship Essay Contest

November 10, 2020
GRAND RAPIDS, MI (November 10, 2020) – Established in 1990 by Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU), the annual Lloyd F. Hutt Scholarship essay contest provides local high school seniors with the opportunity to win one of twenty $2,000 college scholarships. This scholarship program honors the legacy of LMCU founder, Lloyd F. Hutt, and his lifelong commitment to education and community involvement.

This year’s essay topic:
A Day in the Life. Describe one day in your life from the past year.

Applicants are required to write an original 750-1,500 word essay exploring the topic. Essays will be evaluated by an independent panel of judges. The scholarship committee’s principal determining factor in selecting award recipients is the applicant’s passion for the topic. Additionally, the committee will use the following criteria in judging responses to the topic: comprehension of subject, organization, language use, originality, clarity, spelling and grammar.

Since 1991, the Lloyd F. Hutt Scholarship has provided over $421,500 in scholarship dollars to local high school seniors. Last year, 1,322 essays were received for consideration.
