Majorel to bring hundreds of good-paying jobs to Detroit, will host job fair downtown this weekend
February 24, 2022- Detroit beats out more than 50 other cities to become next location for Majorel, a company of nearly 70,000 employees doing business in 35 countries.
- Detroit residents to get first crack at up to 500 positions, starting at $17 an hour with benefits.
DETROIT – Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and City Council President Mary Sheffield were joined today by leaders of Majorel, a leading provider of next-generation end-to-end customer experience solutions for brands around the world, to announce that the company will be opening an office in downtown Detroit in the coming months. In addition, Majorel will be hosting a job fair Friday through Sunday at which Detroiters can land positions starting at $17 per hour with benefits.
The company will hire approximately 200 full-time employees to start and has plans to grow to more than 500 employees at their soon-to-be-announced location downtown. Majorel selected Detroit out of more than 50 other cities.
“I would like to thank Majorel, not only for choosing Detroit, but for ensuring that residents of this city have a chance at filling these good-paying jobs,” Mayor Duggan said. “To have a company that does business in 35 countries choose Detroit speaks volumes about our city’s future and the opportunity that we are creating here for our city’s residents.”
That sentiment was shared by Council President Sheffield, who said: “We are excited to see the career opportunities Majorel will be providing for Detroit residents. We appreciate their investment in utilizing our qualified and talented community members and look forward to building an efficient and equitable working relationship in the future.”
Employees will fill roles in customer service, human resources and operations at levels ranging from entry-level to manager, leading the way with Majorel’s cutting-edge digital native clients.
Gus Gikas, vice president of operations for North America at Majorel, said: “We selected Detroit due to the positive impact we believe we can make on the community as we bring hundreds of new jobs to residents. We look forward to providing our future staff with extensive training and education as we support them with career development opportunities.”
The job fair will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, in the Ontario Exhibit Hall, West Level 3, of the Renaissance Center, 400 Renaissance Drive West, downtown. Some applicants will be hired on the spot. Workers with interest or experience in social media, customer service and technology are asked to bring a resume to the job fair. Training and education will be made available to employees, so lengthy experience is not required but encouraged. Majorel’s Detroit office will open virtually in April, with workers eventually moving into its offices downtown.
After the job fair, Majorel will partner with Detroit at Work to help place Detroiters in positions.
“We’re working to ensure Detroiters are among the most-ready talent pool Majorel has seen anywhere in the nation,” said Nicole Sherard-Freeman, group executive of Jobs, Economy and Detroit at Work. “Through Detroit at Work, we’ll make these opportunities available to Detroiters with the right skillsets, and with City Council and our community partners, we’ll get the word out. Majorel is a great example of what it looks like to combine the City’s economic development and workforce development strategies.”
Since March 2021, the Detroit Regional Partnership worked to attract Majorel to Southeast Michigan conducting a virtual tour of the region and providing workforce data and analysis to inform their site selection process.
“We’re excited to have this innovative customer experience company land in the Detroit Region, leading the way with its cutting-edge digital solutions,” said Maureen Donohue Krauss, president and CEO of Detroit Regional Partnership. “Majorel’s announcement is a great win, they could have located anywhere in the country, but they chose Detroit. It further cements the city and our region as a technology hub that is competing with traditional tech markets nationwide.”
Added Kevin Johnson, president and CEO, Detroit Economic Growth Corporation: “The DEGC is pleased to support companies like Majorel that have a desire to grow and hire locally. Majorel will not only prioritize hiring Detroiters, but will also provide stable, well-paying jobs. The global company’s decision to have a presence in Detroit demonstrates how we have worked together to attract new business, jobs and investment to our city.”
