What’s Next for the Chamber’s Public Policy and Business Advocacy Team

Brian J. Shoaf, Vice President, Public Policy and Business Advocacy
Brian leads the Chamber’s advocacy efforts, representing the organization’s and business community’s policy priorities and supporting relationships with government leaders.
Adam Majestic, Director, Public Policy and Business Advocacy
Adam represents the Chamber’s interests locally, in Lansing, and Washington D.C. as a lobbyist.
Paul Corbett, Director, Government and Community Affairs, MichAuto
Paul will continue to lead government relations activity for the MichAuto program and also support the Chamber’s connections with the Detroit City Council.
Marnita S. Harris, Vice President, Economic Equity and Inclusion
Marnita leads community relations with the city of Detroit and tri-county government officials in collaboration with the Public Policy and Business Advocacy team.
Strategic Partnerships
The Chamber also has two multi-client lobby firms working on its behalf. The Chamber continues its work with long-time partner Sarah Hubbard and her full-service government relations firm, Acuitas. We have also maintained our relationship with Brad Williams by bringing him and Clark Hill Public Strategies into the fold to support strategic planning.
What’s on the Docket
The Chamber will continue to serve as the voice of business in government on key issues including maintaining a world-class business climate, building the talent pipeline, advancing next-generation mobility, and ensuring the Detroit Region’s continued economic growth.
In the near term, the Public Policy and Business Advocacy team is focused on:
- Economic Development: Ensuring the state has the tools necessary to grow its current businesses and attract new businesses from around the globe to locate in Michigan.
- Business Climate: Ensure Michigan is open to business and does not add roadblocks to starting or operating a business here. Keeping taxes low and regulations in check are top priorities.
- Detroit Mayoral Race: 2025 is a major election year for the City of Detroit as residents a new mayor. The Chamber, through its Political Action Committee, is reviewing the candidates to assess their visions and plans for the city. The PAC will announce its endorsement(s) this summer.
