Professional women’s basketball is returning to Detroit. On Monday, June 30, the league announced Detroit will receive a WNBA expansion team in 2029. Congratulations to the investor group behind the bid on this huge win for the city and women’s sports.
The investor group, lead by Platinum Equity founder and Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores and his wife Holly, includes Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, Managing Director of USA Basketball and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Grant Hill, Pistons Vice Chairman Arn Tellem, Detroit Lions principal owner Sheila Hamp, and General Motors Chair and Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra.
