The Detroit Regional Chamber Board of Directors has voted to oppose the ballot question asking Michigan voters whether to convene a Constitutional Convention.

Following this action, the Chamber has joined the “Protect MI Constitution from Special Interests” coalition, which is urging a NO vote on Proposal 1 in November 2026.

A Constitutional Convention would enable a full rewrite of Michigan’s Constitution, potentially impacting every aspect of living, working, and doing business in the state.

The Chamber is concerned that a “Con-Con” would trigger a prolonged and unpredictable multi-year process, undermining the stability needed for long-term economic investment, business growth, and job creation. During such a process, laws and regulations affecting businesses could be rewritten, altered, or eliminated — with limited input from impacted stakeholders.

The Chamber will continue to update members and the business community at large about this issue.
