With continued discussions in Lansing on reforming Michigan’s property tax system, the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Tax Policy Committee held its first 2026 meeting to discuss solutions to the burden property taxes place on residents and businesses. Joined by the Citizens Research Council and the Tax Foundation, members heard in-depth highlights of what Michigan is doing, how other states have solved their property tax issues, and the potential impacts of cutting revenue.
The Chamber’s Tax Policy Committee will continue to meet throughout the summer to explore options for property tax reform, as well as an overarching economic development plan to bring Michigan in line with the top 10 states.
Chamber members interested in joining the Tax Policy Committee should contact their membership manager.
