Reliable transportation is the backbone of a robust regional economy. On Aug. 4, 2026, Wayne County voters will decide on a 10-year transit millage proposal that represents a strategic investment in the regional workforce and local business ecosystem. The proposal includes eight new routes, five extensions to existing or planned routes, and an expanded SMART Flex app-based, on-demand service for lower-density areas.
For a typical $200,000 home, the cost is about $8 per month, while communities with current SMART service will not see an increase in their millage rate.
By expanding fixed routes, paratransit, and flexible micro-transit options, this millage ensures that the regional workforce can reliably reach employers, educational institutions, and commercial centers. Enhancing mobility across Wayne County and metro Detroit is a necessary step to advance economic development and strengthen the regional talent pipeline.
