Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Monday floated a $3 billion plan to boost long-term road and bridge funding, including $2.2 billion in tax increases on businesses and marijuana sales.

Several sources inside and outside the administration had told Crain’s that Whitmer was floating a hike to the 6% corporate income tax in recent days. The proposal stops short of saying how much it should go up, though the Detroit Regional Chamber reported the tax may rise to up to 8%.
Her office indicated a CIT increase is part of the mix but its size could fluctuate depending on other revenue components and how Republican House Speaker Matt Hall and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks react.
