Workforce of the Future: Panel Highlights Training Programs to Fill Talent Gap

Focusing on future industry areas, changing employers’ perceptions and investing in talent were the key messages delivered during the Detroit Policy Conference session “Filling the Gap: Cultivating Detroit’s World-Class Workforce,” sponsored by JP Morgan Chase.

The panel also emphasized the importance of collaborating with other like-minded workforce organizations to create more streamlined processes for new qualified talent. Panelists also stressed that employer engagement with talented employees is vital during their education.

The panel included: Shawna Forbes, vice chancellor for the School of Continuing Education and Workforce Development at Wayne County Community College District; Lisa Katz, executive director of the Workforce Intelligence Network; Pamela Moore, president and CEO of the Detroit Employment Solutions Corp.; and Derek Turner, vice president of operations at Grand Circus. The session was moderated by Mary Kramer, vice president and group publisher of Crain Communications.​
