Chandra Madafferi is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Michigan Education Association. She was elected in 2023 after serving six years as Vice President of the organization.
Before stepping into statewide leadership, Madafferi built her career in the classroom, beginning as a special education teacher in upper elementary and middle school. She later taught health education at the high school level, including a health class for English language learners that integrated both content and language instruction.
Madafferi previously worked in a credit recovery program and served for 15 years as a Program Administrator for Bloomfield SCAMP, a summer program for individuals with disabilities in Oakland County.
As a veteran educator, Madafferi has extensive training in phonics, evidence-based reading instruction, and foundational evidence-based teaching practices that support student learning. Her work has always centered on improving outcomes for students and ensuring that every child, regardless of zip code, has access to excellent teaching, meaningful support, and real opportunity.
