Detroit Regional Chamber Confirms Vaccination Guidance for Registrants, Partnership with CLEAR Health Pass to Manage Process

August 10, 2021
The Detroit Regional Chamber today confirms its vaccination policy for the 2021 Mackinac Policy Conference, initially issued on May 20, 2021, and provides additional guidance for registrants. This year’s Mackinac Policy Conference was rescheduled from its traditional May dates to Monday, Sept. 20, through Thursday, Sept. 23, to address public health concerns. As always, the event will be held on Mackinac Island at the historic Grand Hotel.

The development of the initial guidance, today’s confirmation, and additional details has been a collaborative effort led by Sandy K. Baruah, president and chief executive officer of the Chamber, and Conference Chairman Wright L. Lassiter III, president and chief executive officer of Henry Ford Health System, with ongoing advice and input from the Conference’s CEO Advisory Council, the Chamber’s Board Executive Committee, the Chamber’s full Board of Directors, and Conference sponsors. Additionally, Conference leadership sought additional guidance from a Henry Ford Clinical Advisory Team. Today’s final guidance is issued with the strong support of these key Chamber and Conference stakeholders.

As previously communicated in May, Conference participants are required to have a full COVID-19 vaccination for the Conference. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines “fully vaccinated” as two weeks after receiving a second shot of a two-dose vaccine, or two weeks after the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

CLEAR Health Pass, a best-in-class health screening platform, will be used to confirm attendees’ proof of vaccination. Attendees will be asked to download the CLEAR app and enroll beginning the week of Aug. 16. Registered individuals will receive detailed instructions via email on how to complete their CLEAR Health Pass or how to request and validate an exemption. There is no cost to registrants for enrolling in CLEAR Health Pass. Conference attendees will be required to show their CLEAR Health Pass upon arrival to receive Conference credentials.

Attendees must complete their CLEAR Health Pass or request a penalty-free registration refund by Friday, Sept. 10. After Sept. 10, Conference registration for individuals not completing CLEAR will be cancelled. Cancelled registrants beginning Sept. 11 will be refunded their registration fee minus a $500 processing fee.

Given the rise of the Delta variant and increasing COVID-19 case counts across the country and in our state, additional protocols may be necessary to ensure safety. Conference leadership, Chairman Lassiter, and the Henry Ford Clinical Advisory Team will continue to monitor Michigan’s public health status. The Chamber will communicate additional protocols and changes to the Conference experience as needed.

As a reminder, to further ensure attendee safety and comfort the Chamber has also reduced participant density by more than 30%, limiting total attendance to 1,300. Conference meeting room capacity will be reduced by 20%. Alternative indoor and outdoor viewing areas for Conference sessions will be available. Many of the Conference’s social activities will be conducted outdoors. Chamber staff supporting the Conference on the island will be fully vaccinated.
