Tim Carter is the Associate Partner of Detroit for McKinsey & Co., serving public and social sector clients—particularly state governments —on economic growth and infrastructure deployment issues.
He helps lead the firm’s team of experts who advise clients on topics related to closing the digital divide through public investment in broadband in addition to other types of infrastructure deployment. He also helps convene a global set of colleagues focused on driving broader economic development.
Carter is also a core contributor to the book The Journey of Leadership, which outlines practical advice for leaders looking to embrace a human-centric leadership approach focused on leading from the inside out. His passion for leadership comes from his prior experience leading teams through humanitarian crises, including civil war and natural disasters.
Carter earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan, his Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Wayne State University, and a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Hope College.
